Pastoral Information |
Reverend Jack L. SchoolerJack is a native Virginian, having been born in Staunton, VA and raised at Manassas in Northern Virginia. He graduated from Osbourn High School in Manassas, attended the University of South Carolina, and graduated from the Palmer School of Business with a Major in Accounting. Jack was married to Mary Davis of Columbia, South Carolina on October 12, 1966, and together they have parented five wonderful children. Mary is a faithful homemaker, church worker and very supportive of her husband’s ministry. Jack received his call to the ministry from God on high after an 18 year career in Banking and Accounting. Jack Graduated from the Duke Divinity School’s Course of Study School in 1995, was ordained a Deacon in the United Methodist Church at the 1996 Annual Conference in Virginia Beach, and is an Associate Member of the Virginia Conference. Jack pastured the Mt. Pleasant Charge in Amherst County from 1989 to 1996 and the Hurt United Methodist Church on the Lynchburg District from 1996 until 2007. Jack believes in shared ministry with the laity of the Church. It is his feeling that we need to know God and make Him known, but we must also nurture the new Christian after their conversion to the faith through Bible Study groups, Vacation Bible School and Worship Services that share the Word of God as it relates to life. He also feels that the laity must support and encourage each other through small support groups and prayer. He covets the prayers of his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. He is pretty conservative in his Theology "a Methodist from birth with some experience in the Presbyterian and Southern Baptist traditions" however; he believes that the Bible says that believers are all "Christians" in God’s sight. It was man that divided themselves up into the many denominations of the Church. Jack and Mary have been active in children, youth and adult ministries including mission trips to Equador, S.A., the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina, the adult day-care and abandoned children homes and food kitchens in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Hyde County, North Carolina for hurricane relief, after school tutoring programs, and in mission and spiritual life retreats with members of his congregations. Our God is a God of miracles and answered prayers. His precious Son is both Jack and Mary’s Lord and Savior, and His Holy Spirit is our inspiration and encouragement. Mary has survived Hodgkin’s Disease and been in remission for 13 years now. Jack has been blessed with a heart transplant last November 19th and is doing fine. Our oldest son, Charles Emerson Schooler, is a Pastor to the Salem UMC in Evington, VA. We lost our second son, Aaron Lee, to Neurofibromatosis, but not before Aaron’s faith and testimony brought several people to the Lord and professions of faith. The third son, Benjamin, is a laborer in Highland County, Virginia. Our daughter, Rebekah, is newly married, a teacher’s aide at Hurt Elementary School, and is pursuing a Nursing Degree. Our youngest child, Lucas, is employed by Taylor Brothers Lumber and Supply in Bedford, VA. Pastor Jack and his wife, Mary, have been reviewing Mount Clinton's history and programs, and we are excited about what we see! We look forward to working with you to grow the church and God’s kingdom with ministries that show God’s love toward human kind. May God bless you one and all!! Prior Pastors
